We have scanning the news and recently Zomato has been in the center of controversies. Now lets understand something about Zomato. Zomato is an Indian restaurant & discovery service founded in 2008 by Deepinder Goyal and Pankaj Chaddah.
July 2019 will be remembered as one of the most double faced PR exercise devised by Zomato which clearly focuses on selective outrage. Let’s understand what happened. As per the media reports, Zomato got a lot of appreciation initially for standing up against religious discrimination when a user asked for a refund because he did not want his food to be delivered by a Muslim Rider. Zomato was initially appreciated for the response to the user refusing the refund & stating that “Food has no religion. Food is a religion”. From celebrities to even rival companies UberEats, they supported the move made by Zomato.
But this did not last long and an old tweet came to light where a user asked Zomato for a refund because they were wrongly charging him for non-Halal Meat when he ordered for Halal Meat and Zomato had responded to this by saying “We would look into this”.
This clearly shows the platform is a “Hypocrite With Double-Standards”. See the situation was just blown out of proportion for just reaping some PR Dollars. The man wanted to cancel the order, because he was assigned a delivery boy who is a Muslim. Zomato could have just cancelled his order his order and refunded his money back. This would have certified their stand of ensuring no religious bias towards food. But they went ahead to tweet that “Food does not have a Religion, Food is a Religion”. But the same platform is trying to differentiate between Halal & Non Halal Food. Let’s understand what is Halal Certified food. Halal certification, is a process which ensures the features & quality of the products according to rules established by the Islamic council that allows the use of the mark Halal. It is mainly applied to meat products & other food products such as milk, canned food & additives. Specifically for meat products Halal certifies that the animals are slaughtered in a single cut thoroughly bled, & their meat has not been in contact with animals slaughtered otherwise & especially with pork.
The definition speaks for itself. Using the name of Halal, you are very well bringing religion onto the scheme of things. Now what do I call you guys, “One-sided Opinionated Selective Bigots?”. As per media reports, an ISIS inspired terror outfit planned to poison the Maha Prasad given out to devotees at the Ancient Mumbreshwar temple in Mumbra near Mumbai. Terrorists are planning out food terrorism and the man who ordered the food was visibly apprehensive about that. This is our message to Zomato, “Food is a matter of choice of an individual and if he cancels the order on grounds of a non-hindu delivery boy you could have refunded his money back and shown him the door, We would have definitely supported you and our respect for your organization would have increased considerably.
But you tried to score some dirty PR points by bringing religion into food and when your double face is exposed you just try to give some stupid explanations. Why this selective outrage? And moreover the paid media houses are just spreading the same lies over prime time feed over & over again & again. If food has no religion, why specify Halal or Non Halal food? This clearly shows the kind of Hindu shaming leftist agenda you have in your mind and in your corporate culture and this selective outrage was just to score some shameless PR brownie points. Also the people here are not fools and stop playing just for reaping some publicity”. Also if you play with the religious beliefs of more than a billion hindus living in majority, then it will surely not be taken lightly in this country and you will mark my words face a backlash.
So to conclude this, if corporate houses like Zomato try to disturb the communal fabric of our country using the name of religion, such attitude is absolutely pathetic & shameful & if you have such mindset, I am really sorry to say that we register a protest and will fight for it till the situation changes.
