BCCI has finally announced the 15 man squad for the ICC Cricket World cup 2019 slated to take place in England & Wales from 30th May 2019. The squad will be lead by the flamboyant Indian batsman Virat Kohli which will include Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, KL Rahul, Vijay Shankar.
MS Dhoni will don the ever responsible role of being the wicket keeper for the team with Dinesh Karthik acting as the back up keeper. The squad also includes Kedar Jadhav and Hardik Pandya who will make a real impact as allrounders followed by the spin twins Yuzi Chahal & Kuldeep Yadav making a cut in the side along with the experience of Ravindra Jadeja who will act as a third spinner for the team. Finally the pace attack consists of Bhuvaneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Shami & Jasprit Bumrah leading the pack.
Rishabh Pant & Ambati Rayudu have not made the cut still owing to a few plus with terms to experience of Dinesh Karthik and some flamboyant cricket from Vijay Shankar. As per the chief selector MSK Prasad he said,
“Definitely a case where we debated at length. We all agreed that either Rishabh Pant or Dinesh Karthik will come in only when Dhoni is injured. In an important game, wicket keeping is also important. That’s the reason we went with Dinesh Karthik,”
Speaking about Rayudu’s exclusion MSK prasad said, “After the Champions Trophy (2017), we tried quite a few people in that position. We did give a few more chances to Rayudu. Vijay Shankar is three dimensional. We are looking at him at no. 4 to begin with. We also have Dinesh Karthik and Kedar Jadhav. It’s not that anything that went against Rayudu, it’s that a few things went for Shankar.”
As per the team management, KL Rahul will act as a reserve opener in case of any injury to our regular openers Shikhar Dhawan & Rohit Sharma.
India will begin their quest for the world cup on June 5th against South Africa.
Well considering the conditions and the kind of swing the pitches will offer to bowlers, the side looks to be pretty balanced but a lot will be riding on Bhuvi who is a genuine swing bowler for India along with the pace & bounce of Bumrah & Shami. Wrist Spinners will need to make a good impact with the pitch conditions and will be handy in the middle overs. But the batting seems to be a bit of a problem, as there is no depth seen in the batting line up. A lot will ride on the openers firing on all cylinders followed by Virat batting deep through the innings trying to finish off games and MS donning the anchor’s role. But overall the team looks very formidable and looks set to rock in the world cup. Also this world cup will be the last world cup for MS DHONI!!!
